The Task.

Should Wanda boycott Cola-Cola products?

Wanda is back from Antarctica, minus a couple of fingertips ;) , and she is worried about the ethical position of her buying products from Cola-Cola, she has heard that some consumers have decided to boycott them.

Wanda wants to know

  • Why Coca-Cola is made/bottled all over the world

Here you need to explain to Wanda the type of company Coca-Cola is and the advantages in gains in manufacturing its product in many countries around the world.

  • Why some people are already boycotting Coca-Cola

Here you need to explain why some consumers have chosen not to buy Coca-Cola products. Wanda wants you to provide her with named examples and places, is possible.

  • What Coca-Cola says in its defence

Here Wanda wants to know what Coca-Cola says about the criticisms people make about it, how does Coca-Cola show corporate responsibility? Wanda wants you to provide her with named examples and places, if possible.

  • What would you advise Wanda to do

Here Wanda wants you to come to a personal conclusion, given the evidence you have researched, what would you suggest she does, boycott or continue buying? If she does boycott, are there more ethical products she could invest her cash in?

Writing up your work.

A few tips.

  • Remember this piece has an audience, you need to write to Wanda.
  • Use the points above to structure your writing.
  • You must write your research in your own words.
  • Make sure you write a balanced argument.
  • Whenever possible, provide named examples/locations and illustrate your account with evidence, for example figures.
  • There is no requirement to provide images, diagrams or maps within your work, but if you do, make sure they are linked to your text and appropriately annotated.
  • Your should aim for a concise piece, a guide line is two A4 sides of typing.
  • Remember you must provide a bibliography, a list of the resources you have used. I suggest that you do this as you go along. Write these at the end of your piece like this
