Monday, April 21st, 2008

Welcome back, a bit warm this afternoon, but very pleased with your progress with the examination material, some interesting discussions.  ;)  I’ve now added the PowerPoint we used in lesson to the pre-release material page. You should use this again in the run up to the exam, long with your notes to help you revise.

Pre-Release 2008 - The Doughnut Effect

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

Nice contributions today, you should now understand the advantages and disadvantages of shopping out of town and on the High Street. It was my aim to look at then the impacts of out of town shopping on the urban-rural fringe and the C.B.D., but we ran out of time due to our discussions. Please read this earlier post on the doughnut effect in preparation for the next lesson. (more…)

Pre-release 2008 Part 2-Out of Town Shopping.

Monday, March 31st, 2008

shopping-cart Well, we’ve made a start! I hope your Geography folders have found a good home. Before I begin, just a quick reminder about the multi-media presentations. :)

We seem to have a lot of time on paper, but in reality it is just a few weeks together, therefore if you are away, please read the blog posts, use the resources and do the activities. I’ve now sent up an individual page, PR2008. I will upload resources here and catalogue the blog posts. I think a successful candidate will be reading the posts and also producing their own notes, mind maps etc. Please don’t forget to follow Alan’s blog, you’ll get a different perspective.

We worked hard today, but there is a lot of Geography in here…

The first part of the pre-release booklet focuses on shopping in the Bristol area, so a combination of People as Consumers and My Place.

Two consumer landscapes have been chosen, the first is an out of town shopping centre called the Mall, also called the Cribbs Causeway. You might want to have a look at these websites to become familiar with the centre and what is offers.

Pre-Release 2008

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Tomorrow Year 11 begin preparing for their exam, one of Mrs M’s groups have already started! I will be also putting resources online.  You can check to see if you’ve missed any posts by choosing the tag ‘prerelease2008‘, in the right hand column, under categories.

Might be useful for Year 10 also to follow this… you never know what might turn up in a mock. :)
