Interesting and emotive title for a story in the Guardian about the United Kingdom preparing claims on the ocean floors surrounding several of its island territories. One of the claims includes the Falklands Island, close to Antarctica, the reason, mineral resources, similar to the recent Russian actions in the Arctic. Futures anyone….

i say we shouldnt of given up the british empire in the first place, england was once the most powerful empire on earth, then we gave it up so we could become a tiny little contry in europe
Was it ours to ‘give-up’?
What about the thoughts of the native groups of the countries colonised?
Indeed, the wishes of the natives should be taken into account. But whilst the idea of being part of an empire is abhorrent at first, many of the former colonies in Africa are still dependent on British military and financial assistance, surely they cannot expect to have both the benefits of Britain AND complete independence?
Our empire was never a straight-forward conquest of various nations, it was much more akin to a complex business relationship.
So yeah, wooo go Britan. (I know my ‘woo’ing may falsify everything I’ve just said, but I’ll cope)
