Ilkeston Partnership GCSE Geography Conference

Today, Year 11 GCSE Geographers from four schools across Ilkeston came together for a revision conference.

The schools involved were

Kirk Hallam Community Technology College

Ilkeston School

St John Houghton

and Bennerley School

The students were treated like conference delegates, each having their own conference badge, pack and arranged seating place. Let’s not forget the pencil, with laser engraved motif! (Thanks Mr Hamer for these :) )

We focused on the generic for the conference.

Mr Thomson delivered sessions on unpacking an exam question and using maps and aerial photographs.

Mr Poland, apart from adding energy to the event ;) , focused on data handling and ran a table country competition.

Mrs Marston, did a great decision making exercise, focusing on wearing the right hat for the examiner!

Mr Storey, did the leg work today, organising prizes and general goodies.

I did a presentation on specific geography revision techniques, I wasn’t that impressed with my performance, particularly because the ICT let me down. (I promised after my last presentation never to use a foreign computer again, apart from my Betty ;) ), but I received some nice feedback from students and staff at the end.

My presentation can be downloaded here (PPT 3mb), apart from the video clips, which didn’t work anyway!

Also nice to see some of our Ex-Geographers now doing A-level, brief words with Foxy, Ian H and Matt B.

Thanks to all the students from all schools, your behaviour and attitude was excellent. For any Year 11 readers, please feel free to leave comments, this was the first time through and we are keen to improve the event.
